Abstract

Pancreatic carcinoma is very serious malignant disease. Studying the mechanisms of association of insulin resistance with pancreatic carcinoma is very important for diagnostics of this disease.

We studied 204 patients, health group comprised 64 subjects, 70 patients had type 2 diabetes mellitus and 65 subjects have newly diagnosed pancreatic carcinoma. When we compared localisation and stage of the carcinoma between group of subjects with impaired glucose tolerance and group without impaired glucose tolerance, there was not any difference.

There was 28 subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus and 16 subjects with higher level of fasting glucose in the pancreatic carcinoma group. The duration of the impaired glucose tolerance in pancreatic carcinoma group was 0-23 years.

The majority of patients (68%) had impaired glucose tolerance lasting no more than three years. The important goal of our pilot study is the finding that 68% of subjects in the pancreatic carcinoma group had impaired glucose tolerance.
