Ultrasound image analysis of common carotid artery intimamedia thickness in patients with primary hyperaldosteronism and essential hypertension.

Abstract

In patients with primary aldosteronism (dg E26 ICD) the stiffness of vascular wall and subsequent enlargement of the intima-media thickness (IMT) has been increased. The aim of this study was to assess the possibility of detection for E26 in comparison with patients with essential hypertension (ICD I10 DG) on the basis of a formal analysis of ultrasound image records (USR) of common carotid artery IMT.

We had proved the statistically significant higher values of brightness in USR in the group of 15 patients with E26 towards those one of 12 patients with I10 (p <0.05). The differences are most evident in one third of the estimated distances between the center of internal and external wrapping of common carotid artery closer to its inner wall.
