Abstract

Hyperkinetic disorders classified under F 90 according to ICD-10 (referred to as ADHD in DSM-IV) affect all age groups from childhood to adulthood. Psychoactive drugs improve cognitive functions and promote psychosocial adaptation of patients by palliating the symptoms.

Early treatment, in the Czech Republic namely by methylphenidate and atomoxetine, prevents negative impact on the patient´s personal life, both in children and in adults (if the disorder persists). The paper analyzes pharmacological mechanism of action, indications, dosage, interactions, undesirable side effects and benefits of psychoactive drugs.
