Systemic inflammatory response syndrome associated with pulmonary endarterectomy in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension

Abstract

Pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) is an effective treatment for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Hemodynamic instability after PEA is related to systemic inflammatory network activation.

Interleukin-6, interleukin-8 and procalcitonin activation may be among the neurohumoral factors responsible for systemic vasoplegia and cardio-depression after PEA.
