Abstrakt
The paper discusses the role of some international organizations engaged in preventing the smuggling and trafficking of radioactive materials, which may include their unauthorized removal, theft, sale, transfer or transport, in order to minimize the potential of the use of such substances for the construction of a radiological weapon. Emphasis has been placed on the importance of introducing strict measures aimed at controlling all powerful radioactive sources at a national level using legislative mechanisms consistent with international standards and recommendations.
The role and the function of the most important international organizations is also discussed.
