Pneumography usage and recording of pneumogram for speech therapy examination

Abstract

Paper provides a basic description of the pneumograph and its usage in phoniatrics. Pneumograph is used in the evaluation of patients suffering from speech and voice problems, because during phonation significantly involved respiratory tract.

Although pneumography is one of the oldest methods that provide information on breathing in clinical practice it is neglected, mainly due to lack of manufacturer of the device on the market. Still, this method provides valuable information a breathing technique, both in speaking and singing.

These parameters can be evaluated especially: respiratory rate, the ratio of inspiration and expiration, the relationship between thoracic and abdominal curve, presence of pathological phenomena.
