Abstract

The study inquires into the career of the Czech doctor František Burian, the war surgeon and founder of plastic surgery in Czechoslovakia. The emphasis is put especially on his medical experiences in the Balkan Wars (1912-1913) and in the World War I. (1914-1918), which became the foundation for his future externalization as a plastic surgeon.

Through the experiences of F. Burian, the article records a development of the plastic surgery in Czechoslovakia.

In this context Burian´s fundamental role as the founder of this branch of medicine is inquestionable.
