Surgical Treatment for Atlantoaxial Osteoarthritis (AAOA): A Prospective Study of Twenty-Seven Patients.

Abstract

Atlantoaxial osteoarthritis (AAOA) is a clinical syndrome with signs distinctly different from those of degenerative sub-axial spine disease. Its diagnosis may long be delayed, partly because of insufficient knowledge and partly due to difficulties in interpreting both anteroposterior and lateral radiographs.

The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the first 27 AAOA patients treated at our department.
