Vaccination against human papillomavirus has the potential to prevent tumor lesions associated with HPV 16 and 18 – carcinoma cervix and tumor lesions of external genitalia. Usage of quadrivalent vaccine protects also against genital warts and other lesions associated with HPV 6 and 11infection.
Optimal results are achieved when naive individuals, who have not yet come up in contact with this most common sexually transmitted infection, are vaccinated. In sexually active women vaccination protects against reinfection and infection with further HPV types
