Nitric oxide and carbon monoxide functions in the liver: pharmacological applications to hepatotoxicity and hepatoprotection in experimental liver research

Publication

Abstract

The investigations suggests that the interaction of heme oxygenase/carbon monoxide and inducible nitric oxide synthase/nitric oxide is an atractive and promising field. The autors provide one step further towards the pharmacological implication of the interplay between heme oxygenase/carbon monoxide and nitric oxide synthase/nitric oxide systems in the liver as modulated by resveratrol.

In addition, and considering that resveratrol is consumed regularly by human beings, it seems reasonable to begin clinical evaluations of this compound on liver diseases of different etiologies without going through the long time required for the development of new medicine.
