Abstract
The article presents an overview of established as well as experimental methods of medical treatment of childhood autism. In the first part, recent clinical studies involving atypical antipsychotics (particularly risperidone, and aripiprazole), SSRI antidepressants, methylphenidate, valproate, and melatonin are summarized.
The second part focuses on experimental therapies with emphasis on oxytocin trials.
