Effect of antidepressants and mood stabilizers on activity of mitochondrial enzymes

Abstract

The lecture summarizing own results about effects of psychotropics on mitochondrial functions. It is suggested that changes in energy metabolism participate in the origin of mood disorders and are included in therapeutic or side effects of antidepressants and mood stabilizers.

We measured in vitro effects of pharmacologically different antidepressants and mood stabilizers on the activities of mitochondrial enzymes. Kinetics of oxygen consumption by mitochondria at different conditions was measured, as well.
