Response to treatment in women with chronic myeloid leukemia during pregnancy and after delivery

Abstract

We report response to treatment of 5 pregnant women with CML during and after pregnancy. CML was diagnosed during pregnancy in 3 patients, while 2 patients became pregnant during CML.

Interferon alpha with leukapheresis when needed was applied in the 2nd and 3rd trimester. We describe that all patients except one achieved complete hematological response during pregnancy.

After delivery four patients achieved partial cytogenetic response on imatinib and two patients achieved major molecular response after crossover to dasatinib. We conclude that the pregnancy of our CML patients did not substantially negatively influence their further response to treatment, in comparison to other patients.
