Emotional instability may be due to neurotransmitter dysbalance resulted from a single SGCE gene mutation. We suggest that observed psychopathological features can be interpreted as primary or secondary reactions to emotional instability.
The primary reactions are anxiety, depression and dysphoria, whereas the secondary reactions are automutilation, suicidal attempt, abuse, obssesive-compulsive disorder, dependency. The secondary reactions serve to reduce inner tension caused by emotional instability.
