Late prosthetic endocarditis

Abstract

The article deals with the case of a patient with aortic valve replacement for infective endocarditis. The patient has had recurrence of infective endocarditis at the implanted prosthetic valve.

Although it was the case with late prosthetic endocarditis, the course and complications of the disease showed signs which are usualy present in early prosthetic valve endocarditis. There was the development of paravalvular abscess, dehiscence of the prosthesis with severe paravalvular aortic insufficiency and the need of urgent replacement of the aortic valve and part of the thoracic aorta by the homograf.
