Albertov 1989 : 20th anniversary of Velvet Revolution

Publication

Abstract

The exhibition presented many unique documents that were obtained from the archives of the Faculty of Science , Charles University but also from private collections of pedagogues and from direct participants of the strike. Among others there was found a letter written by students of the 1st year biology studies in which they protest in September 1989 against enforced recruitment to the Socialist Union of Youth (SSM).

The archive also revealed complicated rehabilitation processes of unjustly dismissed students and pedagogues who were persecuted for political reasons. In addition to photographs from the strike at the Faculty of Science witnesses also provided us with unique shots from the stormy discussion with the members of Ministry of Interior Special Forces Department (so called Maroon berets).

The exposition also pointed out genius loci of Albertov and it put the revolutionary events into a broader national and international framework. It also remembered the life in real socialism and the crimes of communism.

Obtained archives were handed over to the archives of Charles University.
