Cooperation among National Parliaments : An Effective Contribution to EU Legitimation?

Publication at Faculty of Social Sciences |

Abstract

In recent years, various new tools of interparliamentary information exchange and cooperation have been developed. The aim of these tools is to improve the ability of national parliaments to scrutinise the European decision-making process, both at national and European levels, and for them to form and voice their opinions at both these levels.

This chapter describes the development and use of these channels in the context of the democratic legitimacy of the EU and in the framework of the European multilevel parliamentary field.
