Publication |
2011

Abstract

The Western view of Japan is often tinged with fascination, curiosity and admiration. Why should not they? Finally, the Far East provides a rich landscape and local culture, exotic food and elaborate rituals, even in everyday life.

Also in regard to the religious sphere, it is not surprising to speak of alienation and fascination, because in Japan a religious culture has to this day, remains unique in the world. Both the spirits of Shinto, the magical rituals of Shingon Buddhism, the impressive power of the mantras of Amida and Nichiren sects, as well as the peace and serenity of Zen bear witness about the diversity of religious culture in the land of the rising sun.
