Abstract

This publication is a result of long-term research of a team of authors involved in scientific analyses and theoretical work in the area of education and professional development of teachers. The problems are presented from different perspectives concentrating on different aspects of this theme.

Common denominator is the attention dedicated to the significance of the teacher for the development of school and education, a search for the criteria of evaluation of quality and work of the teacher. Presented are also repeated attempts to define the complex of necessary knowledge and skills, including further aspects of the professions of teachers used during the process of formulating both preparatory education and support of professional development of active teachers.

With regard to the discussion about professional development and its support, we divided the publication into 4 parts. The publication is introduced by a study of professor Z.

Helus Professional development of teachers: Better or in another way? The publication is concluded with an essay Debate on professionalisation of teachers in post-modern time, which can be considered as a kind of challenge calling for the teachers’ responsability for pupils, school and surrounding world.
