Abstract

The aim of this paper is to describe basic characteristics of high-income (rich) persons from Eastern EU countries. Rich persons are defined as persons living in households where equivalised disposable income is higher than the 95th percentile of equivalised disposable income distribution.

Hence the study is focused on five percent of persons with the highest incomes the selected countries. Analyses performed in the paper are based on EU SILC 2010 microdata, and the high-income persons are described in terms of their economic activity, subjective perception of their own situation (including ability to make ends meet, capacity to face unexpected financial expenses, lowest monthly income to make ends meet, and material deprivation).
