Abstract

Summary: The aim of this work was to verify the occurrence of inherited progeny of the Habsburg family and their succesors on portraits dysplaied on historical coins. The study was performed on nineteen digital photographs of the coins depicting the right profile of the Habsburg monarchs and their descendants from Habsburk-Lorraine dynasty in the years 1516-1875.

Authenticity of the numismatic material was verified by superimposition of lateral cephalographs of Ferdinand I, Maximilian II and Rudolf II and their coin portraits. In all studied profiles those anthropometric measurements were performed, where significant variations compared to the mean physiological value corresponds with improper jaw relationship.

Progeny was observed for most of the Habsburk rulers, makrocheilie was not confirmed. None of the Habsburg-Lorraine dynasty was affected by progeny.

Question remaines, what factors are involved in the different manifestations of sagittal jaw relationship in the dynasty of habsburg-lorraine.
