Abstract

"Theodicy of Justice as Fairness and Sceptical Pluralism: A View from Behind the Veil of Ignorance" is a chapter in a collective monograph: "Knowledge, Action, Pluralism", edited by Janusz Salamon, Ph.D. (FSV, Univerzita Karlova) and Sebastian T. Kolodziejczyk, Ph.D. (FF, Jagiellonska Univerzita v Krakove).

The chapter deals with the challenge of cross-cultural pluralism in the context of cultural globalisation. The author defends two innovative theories of "sceptical pluralism" and "theodicy of justice as fairness" which suggests how John Rawls' influential theory of justice as fairness can be applied to the case of fundamental conflicts over cultural and religious values thus leading to conflict resolution.

For this reason the chapter has an interdisciplinary character drawing on the resources of political theory, theories of cross-cultral communication, and philosophy of religion. The chapter is published in a monograph written by a team of world famous scholars in philosophy and religious studies from the leading American and European universities, including professors: Richard Swinburne (University of Oxford), Paul Clavier (Ecole Normale Superieure de Paris), Louis Caruana (University of London), William Wainwright (University of Wisconsin), Linda Zagzebski (University of Oklahoma), Eleonore Stump (St Louis University), Vladimir Shokhin (Lomonosov Moscow State University), Roger Pouive (Universite de Lorraine), Nehama Verbin (Tel-Aviv University), Denis Moreau (Universite de Nantes), Daniel von Wachter (International Academy of Philosophy in Liechtenstein), etc.

Due to the world class reputation of the leading contributors to the volume, this monograph is likely to be considered as one of the most important publication in the field published in 2013.
