The paper deals with the communicative potential of intonation structures in contemporary Russian language. In characterizing the intonation structures we use the classification made by E.
A. Bryzgunova.
The paper presents the results of the analysis of teaching sets for pupils at secondary school “Raduga po-novomu”, “Vremena” and “Klass”. Attention is paid to the possibilities of use of intonation structures as a means of emotional and modal aspects of oral speech.
