Abstract
The article presents the view of finding and assessment of the oldest text written in Old Portuguese language. In the 20th century there have been some disputations relating the verity of the “oldest preserved written landmark“.
The credibility of this text was impeached by the ascertaining that it could be just a posterior copy or by the discovery of totally new unknown text which could be rather considered the oldest one. This article tries to show the process of the development respecting the establishment of the original documentary testimony as an interesting point in the History of Portuguese language.
