Abstract

The article reviews the publication entitled „Roadmap for active ageing alias how to navigate the landscape of active aging and long-term care - a guide for citizens and municipalities“, which was created as part of the project implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research in Vienna and the Centre of Expertise in Longevity and Long-term Care of the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University. The aim of the project is to promote active and healthy aging at the local level and providing long-term care services in communities and involvement of citizens and interested organizations in Czech towns and cities.

Based on expert analysis, research and field surveys in municipalities in the Czech Republic and abroad the guide summarizes the main findings, trends and inspiring examples of good practice from different cities in key areas of local and urban life, such as communication and participation in local government, housing, barrier-free environment, accessible transport, sports and physical activities, volunteering, education, information technologies, and long-term care, including definition and description of basic concepts, principles, and services such as identifying the needs of long-term care in the community, functional assessment, integration and continuity of services and case management and provision of various kinds of long-term care. The paper shows why municipalities are so important and emphasizes the role and responsibility of local governments in promoting health, active aging and ensuring long-term care.
