The Role of Gymnasiums in the Shaping of the Cultural Elites of the Czech Nation during the 2nd Half of the 19th Century

Abstract

The analysis of the changing structure of the pupils of the Czech Gymnasiums (Latin schools for boys between 11 nad 19 years), especially of the gymnasium at Jičín, and of their professional perspectives enables to the author to look for the social roots of the modern Czech Intelligentsia and its engagement in different professions.
