In France, Karel Čapek was valued as a successful playwright at first. In 1924 his visionary play RUR was presented in Paris.
Later Luc Durtain adapted Čapek´s play, Mother, for a Parisian stage. Unlike his work for theatre, Čapek´s prose works, being not influenced by daily political events so tihghtly, archieved a high and lasting repute.
Benjamin Crémieusx´s challenge Čapek´s novels and short stories to be translated into French proved its fulfilment after the Second World War.
