Abstract

First part of a larger essay following Karel Čapek's stay in Paris when he attended lectures at the Sorbonne. His lifelong interest in French art and sculpture, later also in French literature rose just in that period.

For his anthology French Poetry of New Age, he translated into Czech, inter alia, poems written by Jules Romains, Georges Duhamel and Charles Vildrac who became his close friends.
