Abstract
Since Renassaince there is a continuous expansion and fragmentation of the universe of human knowledge. New disciplines emerge, some expand, others split, or fuse into larger fields, but always the gaps between individual disciplines enlarge and deepen.
In the paper the concept of a domain of discourse is introduced and relations between different domains are exposed. Finally the need of transdisciplinary study on the university level is highlighted.
