Abstract

The protagonist of the novel “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka, Gregor Samsa, is transformed into a gigantic insect. This metamorphosis offers an unusual theme even for cognitive science.

For instance, assuming there is something of a human nature remaining in Samsa's insect body, is there any possibility of understanding the way in which his two natures, the human one and the insect one, mutually interact? In the essay similar questions are explored from diverse viewpoints
