Abstract
Article assesses purpose of GDP and criticizes the use of the indicator for sustainability and welfare assessment. After the description of national accounts adjustments approaches as well as its aggregates, an assessment of Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare is made.
Several approaches of compilation and calculation of ISEW is briefly analysed.
