Picturing the modern history in the Czech history textbooks published during communist and postcommunist periods
Abstract
The paper presents the current research results brought by a visual analysis conducted in the Czech history textbooks of the period 1967-2009. It represents the vertical analysis of the sample of 218 images displaying the most important historical events in the Czech modern history of the 20th century.
The contribution shows not only the results of analysis and their interpretation. It also tries to deal with the methodological issues of using visual analysis as well as with some problematical elements of theoretical concept based in the critical theory of images.
