Abstract

Chronic demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is the most common chronic autoimmune polyneuropathy with the prevalence of 1-2/100000 inhabitans. Since 1958 have been used corticosteroids as the mainstay of treatment.

Since the 90. of the 20. century were introduced intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) for the therapy of CIDP. Both of these have their pros and contras including the cost (IVIG), which is reviewed in the article.

The author justifies why corticosteroids are still the first line therapy in CIDP.
