Hillary Richrdson says that religion and art were inseperably entwined in the culture of the Celtic peoples. In both pagan and Christian times the Celts expressed supernatural beliefs in their art.
In the British Isles churches were originally built of wood. In Ireland there also existed oratories or small churches of stone.
Very typical for Celtic Christianity are the high crosses and round towers. A considerable number of these have been preserved in Ireland.
Perhaps the most beautiful of irish manuscripts is the Book of Kells which is kept in the Trinity College Library in Dublin.
