Abstract
Mosques serve as urban, architectural, and verbal symbols of visible presence of Muslims in the public space of Western cities. That is why the constructing of mosques may be not accepted by the majority society.
This happened in several Czech towns in the last decade. The paper describes this kind of struggle.
