Abstract
This paper analyses the prospects of Russia´s global position through two aspects: demographics and economic structure. Russia’s position in BRICS is unique due to unfavourable demographic developments and its mineral-resource dependent economy.
This dependence is inherited from previous regimes and is linked to the political system. These deficiencies contrast with the image of Russia as a global power.
