Abstract

The article focuses on forecast of number and size of selected housekeeping households in the Czech Republic in the period 2013-2040. The main data sources are Population and housing census held in 2011 and the official Population projection till 2100 issued by the Czech Statistical Office in 2013.

Due to switch from permanent residence to usual residence in the census methodology, the projection deals with one-person households, one-couple families and lone-parent families. To examine household distribution the modified headship rate method is utilized.

This method enables to avoid inconsistencies which could be found when only the classical headship rate was used. The headship rate was used as the base for the forecast.

Three presented variants of the forecast are based on the three variants of the population projection. The results confirm the expectancies of decreasing average size of households and increasing number of one-person households.

These tendencies are consequences of the process of demographic ageing and changing life style in the Czech Republic.
