Abstract

Different life periods are characterized with distinct specific needs of some vitamins. The aim of the paper was to give the basic overview about the appropriateness and the needs of the vitamin supplementation in chosen groups of people, respectively.

Generally, vitamin supplementation is not necessary in healthy person with varied and balanced diet. But it should be recommended to supplement folic acid already before conception for pregnant and breast-feeding women.

Increased intake of vitamin D and probably B6 is also required. When pregnancy gestosis occurs, supplementation of multivitamin preparations is recommended.

In children from 2 weeks after childbirth to 12-18 months of age vitamin D is given routinely. In the elderly supplementation especially of vitamins B, C and D is appropriate.
