Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2013

Abstract

The publication features interviews with twelve former and current non-academic employees of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. The interview subjects speak about their personal histories and, primarily, about the faculty itself - about their co-workers, non-academic, academicians and students.

Their recollections cover the period from 1955, when the first of the narrators joined the faculty, to the present. The thematic scope ranges from personal relationships at the workplace and social activities, through development of the faculty's technology, equipment and spatial arrangement, to intersections of personal history with "major historical events", primarily in the years 1968 and 1989.

The interview subjects are three librarians, faculty economist, two secretaries of departments, two heads of the personnel department, a secretary of the dean and subsequently head of the registrar, an audio-visual technician, a facility manager and a faculty driver. The book begins with a brief introduction and acknowledgments, which are followed by the interviews.

The methodological foundation and the course of the project's realization are described in the final interview, which the project team conducted among themselves. The book was prepared by a team of six students and doctoral candidates, dean's assistant und former head of the Jan Palach Library, under the leadership of the faculty bursar.
