Abstract

The research study presents the analysis of trends in the rainfall-runoff regime and extreme events in the upper course of the Hron River from 1931 to 2010. Following assessment methods for the detection of trends in data series of hydrometeorological features were applied: simple and double-mass curves and Mann-Kendall statistical trend.

The increase of the run-off regime occurred in 70th and first half of 80th years in 20th century. Since that is typical decrease in run-off regime in upper course of the Hron River.

Decrease in the run-off is significant in winter season (from November to February). In the time series of mean annual precipitation totals is noticeable an increase in Brezno station.

Comparative analysis with other catchments (the Bela River and low/mountain streams in the Bohemian Forest) was also applied.
