Perestroika, the Baltic republics and Czechoslovakia 1988-1991

Abstract

The author deals with national emancipation process of the Baltic republics during perestroika in years 1988-1991 and its reflection in Czechoslovakia in relation framework between Czechoslovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the Soviet centre. In the first part, it analyses conditions for the establishment of contacts between Czechoslovak dissent and peoples'fronts in the Baltics.The second part analyses further development between postcommunist Czechoslovakia and the Baltic republics 1990-1991.

It focuses on the standpoint and policy of Czechoslovak state and political representation, Baltic activists,public) towards the Lithuanian and Baltic question.
