Abstract

The main point of interest in relation to the protection of caves is a measurement of the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2). This monitoring is to protect karst phenomena.

The concentration of CO2 in the cave microclimate increases with the number of visitors in the cave. Such an increase in gas concentration could in the long run destroy stalactites in the cave.

Therefore, these values should be monitored.
