Phraseographical Practice in the Adjectival Database of the Velký německo-český akademický slovník (Large Academic Dictionary German-Czech)

Abstract

This article presents principles of phraseography description in the adjectival database of VNČAS, which are based on reflection on idioms processing as practised in current bilingual (German-Czech) dictionaries and on own empirically grounded phraseographical practice. Problematic solutions applied to existing dictionaries prompted a number of proposals for improvements of the current state of the art.

New ways of lexicographic description make use of the new electronic medium: The open electronic database of VNČAS containing rich authentic data from electronic corpora make traditional printed dictionaries seem outdated.
