While pidginisation and creolisation may offer alternative options to trees and branches in genetic study of languages,the same conclusion may be applied to territorial dialects. Such cases as Hausa, an important vernacular and lingua franca in West Africa, may display dialects resulting from classical dialectal development as well as dialects resulting from pidgin/creole life-cycles
