Ideal of male/boy beauty in school groups

Abstract

The article is focused on adolescent concept of male or boy appearance and its impact on social position of boys in classroom structures. They can reach a better social position, if their appearance suits to group norms.

Based on three qualitative studies it is proved that group norms consist a set of requirements toward male appearance which differ from requirements toward female appearance both in content and strength. The results of partial surveys are discussed in the context of present international theoretical approaches and empirical evidences about ideal of beauty in gender perspective.
