A mercury meniscus modified silver solid amalgam electrode (m-AgSAE) was used as a working electrode for voltammetric study of electrochemical behavior and determination of 4-nitrobiphenyl (4-NBP). Optimal conditions for its determination in the concentration range from 2⋅10–7 to 1⋅10–4 mol L–1 at the m-AgSAE using DC voltammetry (DCV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) were found in a mixture of 0.25 mol L–1 acetate buffer of pH 4.8 and methanol in a volume ratio of 7:3.

Moreover, application of adsorptive stripping differential pulse voltammetry (AdSDPV) was tested to achieve a lower limit of quantification. The applicability of the developed methods was tested on model samples of drinking and river water.
