This Czech version of the Kojiki is the first complete translation of the work into the Czech language. In this translation, prof.
Fiala has tried to express the beauty of the original text and remain faithful to all its nuances. In detailed commented footnotes, he has attempted to support understanding of the text by results of the modern scholarship, without violating the original atmosphere of enchantment and respect, with which Japanese readers, scholars and artists have approached the text in the process of Japan’s cultural history.
Names are preserved in their original eight-vowel form and the discussion of their etymology is explained in the footnotes. In the cases, in which the etymology is important for the interpretation of the story and is undisputable, the translation is used together with the original form of the name.
The text is accompanied with a detailed introduction, a table of Japanese emperors and with a detailed and topic scientific bibliography, in which Japanese characters are used, and with an index.
