Abstract
The chapter presents the recent reflection of critical theory in the field of media studies in the Czech Republic. After introducing the lack of translated literature concerning the topic (explained mainly as a result of a relatively short history of media studies in Czech academic context), it introduces some of the texts applying critical perspective, that the author subjectively considers important or constitutive (articles concerning theoretical concepts of cultural studies, politico-economic perspective in communication studies, critical discourse analyses etc.).
It further stresses the importance of open discussion about the field borders that would lead to a consensus about desirable course of both theoretical and analytical work in media studies in the Czech Republic.
