In first two decades of 14th century the Wallachian duchy was formed South of Carpatian. Basarab I. arised on its head.
He took advantage of internal conflicts in the Hungarian Kingdom. Initially he was appeared as a ally of hungarian king Karol Róbert.
However in second half of 20th years of 14th century his attitude was changed and he became a ally of bulgarian tsar Michal Šišman, enemy of Karol Róbert. This allance was defeated by Serbia in the battle at Velbuždi (July, 1330).
Karol Róbert attempted take advantage of situation, but he was defeated by Basarab I. in battle at Posada in 1330. With this victory Basarab I. acquired independnt position for Wallachian duchy, which he approved save in following years of his reign.
