Ciclesonid in preventive pharmacotherapy of bronchial asthma: influence on inflammation of small airways

Abstract
Ciclesonide, an inhaled corticosteroid, is delivered from a pressurized hydrofluoroalkane metered-dose inhaler as an extrafine-particle aerosol which facilitates its high pulmonary deposition and uniform distribution in large and small airways. Clinical studies and meta-analyses which compared ciclesonide against placebo and other inhaled corticosteroids at therapeutically equivalent doses have documented its excellent safety profile and reliable therapeutic effect regardless of asthma severity.
